D'Alliance Festival

The inaugural D’Alliance Carnivale was held on the 9^th May 2009 and was the first fringe style festival of its type on the Gold Coast. The festival captured an array of arts including Aerial Acrobatics, Dance, Music, Street Performers, Visual Arts, Comedy, Short Film and a night light spectacular.

I was lucky enough to receive funding via an arts grant from Youth Arts Queensland called Strut your Stuff to display & co-ordinate two a/v screens on either side of the main stage in the night time. The festival was a great success and had a fabulous turnout reaching full capacity.

A big thankyou to all the people involved who made this festival such a great experience, especially Kylie Mitchell, Fredrick Holler and Emily Cook.

"This is a Highlight Reel of the 2009 D'Alliance Carnival by the Creek.

D'Alliance festival is a celebration of the arts including theatre, performance, comedy, music and visual arts. Embark on a journey of music, magic and mystique. Currumbin Creek becomes an otherworldly place with magicians, street performers, story tellers, gate keepers and maestros.

Alongside the event, workshops were held in flamenco dance, short film, comedy, singing and mask making. Saturday evening culminates with a theatre light spectacular held on the water, with aerial performance and gypsy bands to dance the night away. It is a festival for the young at heart with fun, fantasy and fairytales.

Good news

Ive just been given a grant to work on a mentorship project with the amazing artist Stephen Danzig for 9 month in 2009.

I was quite suprised when I got the phone call as I sent the application
in thinking it would be highly unlikely that I would hear back from the
people running it (YAMP). I was pretty thrilled that Stephen Danzig
agree to Mentor me in the first place, as he has quite a hectic life at
the moment and spends a fair bit of time residing in London as well as
exhibiting internationally.

Danzig's work spans across many areas of new media and time based visual art such as photomedia, video & animation

As well as being an amazing visual artist Danzig is also the founder and
director of the International Digital Arts (IDA) projects, which have
been responsible for curating several large digital video exhibitions
across Australia, such as the Vernacular Terrain (VT2) recently held

I dare say this means I will be back fully emersed in the digital areana
again after the a few months break
........but not after some mandatory celebrations

On Wednesday 17th September Essence will be unveiled for the very first time as part of the 'In The Bin' festival at Currumbin Surf Club on the Gold Coast. The night kicks off at 5.30 pm with short films about extreme sport and nature documentaries followed by the screening of Essence and performances by some of the artists involved in the project. Essence will also be providing the entertainment for the outdoor sessions of In The Bin at Currumbin Parklands on Saturday 13th September and Friday 19th September.

Coordinators Emily Cook and Freddy Holler have united with the potent forces of visual artists Rose Staff and Nicola Parsons; musicians from established local acts Tijuana Cartel, Kwerkshoppe and Bowser and a variety of other unique and talented local creative's. The group intend to incorporate several more selected musicians into the project and produce a full length album and 1 hour documentary next year. Together they have developed a multi-media platform, designed to showcase the burgeoning creative community of which they are an integral part.

Attendees will be treated to a fascinating journey into the realm of artistic creation, offering an overview of the process of synthesising the many musical styles incorporated into the project; a visual snapshot of the fusion of creative individuals from a diverse range of artistic circumstances— emerging, established, indigenous, multicultural, indie rock, flamenco breakbeat, jazz funk, electronic producers and more … all representing a prolific cross-section of Gold Coast musical community. The film is also interspersed with images of the spectacular local scenery.
